I have had the distinct honor of serving in our nations military for nineteen years, and while my time in service to this nation has brought me blessings, opportunities and experience, it has also brought me closer than most to a significant problem facing our nation today, the care of our veterans.
There are 40,000 (and counting) homeless veterans when one is too many. Many veterans still suffer from an addiction to opioids and are struggling with significant mental illnesses that many of us could only understand in nightmares. On top of that, entering the workforce can be a significant struggle for these brave men and women, and unemployment rates among veterans is 5.1 percent as of 2016.
Our nation should serve those who have served us. As your congressman, I assure you that Veterans Affairs will be a priority and I will not rest until we begin to chip away and the previously mentioned statistics. Most importantly, veterans will come before politics, party, and money with me as your representative.
They took care of us, now we MUST take care of them.
